Well to stock in-vitro diagnostic tests in branches on Monday

Well Pharmacy has struck an agreement with healthcare company 2San to stock their in-vitro diagnostic test kits in 492 of the chain’s pharmacies from Monday.

Eleven different types of kit will be sold in Well branches and online, allowing patients to carry out tests at home for a variety of conditions. The tests will be sold for £8.99.

There are tests for bowel health, hypothyroidism (underactive thyroid), vitamin D deficiency, iron deficiency, stomach ulcers (H.pylori), urinary tract infection, bacterial vaginosis, strep A, Covid and flu, male fertility (sperm concentration test) as well as a follicle stimulating hormone test for menopause and a drugs of abuse test.

Well used recent research by IPSOS that found 91 per cent of people are happy with the self-diagnostic testing process while 83 per cent are content with testing for infection-related issues, 82 per cent for health and wellness issues and 42 per cent for “gender-related matters.”

The chain also said it is confident the market for at-home testing will grow significantly in the coming years. In a statement, 2San said “rapid at-home testing can play an important part in improving population health by identifying disease early.”

Well’s deputy superintendent pharmacist George Sandhu said: “We are delighted to be working with 2San and to be able to begin stocking these tests, which will help people take control of their health and seek help and support if needed.

“Early detection in many conditions is key, and we are working closely with 2San and our pharmacists to ensure support and guidance is given to customers who use these tests to detect certain conditions.”
